As the Arctic fox lives in very cold climates, (Arctic tundra) they have a body structure and different body systems that help them adapt to the cold conditions. This page will now tell you of these different adaptations.
As you can see from the pictures on the left and above, the arctic fox has a thick bushy amount of fur. This is done in order to keep the fox from being cold and to allow the fox to be comfortable. When it comes to the adaptations of the arctic foxes body systems, it has counter current systems. This mean the arteries and veins are right next to each other. As one blood vessel has warm blood and the other has cold, the reason the veins and arteries are right next to each other is so that the warmth from the blood vessel will transfer to the other causing a warm current. This will reduce the amount of cold blood is transported around the foxes body which in turn will make it warmer for the fox. Finally, the arctic fox has two layers of fur. The undercoat and the guard hairs. The guard hairs is the top layer and the under coat is the under layer. This adaptation increases the amount of layers the fox has creating more warmth for the fox.
