As the fennec fox lives in hot climates, ( Sahara desert) they have body structure and body systems adaptations to help them adapt to the hot conditions. This body will now tell you of these different adaptations.
As you can see from the pictures on the left and above, fennec foxes have very large ears. This is because it helps the fox disperse any excess heat during the hot days of it's climate. Due to the fennec fox living in deserts, they cannot get enough water so their kidneys are specially adapted to restrict any water loss. To retrieve water, they consume their food to receive moisture from it. Also, the fact that they burrow and are nocturnal animals helps restrict any water loss. Within the desert, the nights are very cold and due to the fennec fox being nocturnal, they are out at night most of the time. The adaptation for this is that they have a thick layer of fur which helps insulate them from the cold conditions at night. As well as this, they also have sandy colored fur which helps reflect the heat away from them. It also helps with the fennec foxes camouflage to protect themselves from predators. Finally, the fennec fox has very thick fur on the souls of their feet to protect themselves from the burning hot sand of the desert. Not only this but this adaptation also creates great traction on the loose sand.
